Genomic DNA was isolated from whole blood by standard procedure at the WTCRF Genetics Core, Western General Hospital, Edinburgh. Forty-nine SNPs were genotyped using a competitive allele specific PCR system (KASPar) by Kbiosciences, Herts, UK. A further 21 SNPs—all in SYNJ2—were genotyped using the Illumina Human610-Quadv1 Chip, for more detail see Luciano and colleauges [25].
