Text

Beginning with probands, Step 2 was associated with a significant increase in the R2 over the R2 from Step 1 for all 4 regression equations. All SRE scores contributed significantly to Step 2 for both dependent variables cross-sectionally, all but SRE-H (beta = 0.11, p = 0.06) contributed significantly prospectively for maximum drinks, and the only SRE score to contribute prospectively to the prediction of alcohol problems was SRE-3. Note that the sign for SRE-5 became negative due to a suppressor effect of including SRE-5 in the same equation with SRE-3 or SRE-H. The alcohol challenge only contributed significantly to the prospective prediction of maximum drinks.
