To minimize the influence of genetic background, all strains were backcrossed to the Berlin parental strain prior to behavioral testing. The Berlin strain was tested behaviorally alongside the surveyed strains to provide a standard metric for daily variations in behavioral responses, and its behavior was essentially identical to the averaged response of all 107 strains that we tested (Fig. S3). All strains were tested at the moderate 60% ethanol vapor concentration.
